When an AC system struggles to keep up, most people assume the refrigerant is low or the unit is just old. Sometimes it's neither. The blower wheel - the component that physically moves air through your system - can get so packed with debris that it can barely do its job.
That's exactly what we found here. The blower wheel was completely impacted with built-up dirt and grime. Every blade was coated, which means the wheel couldn't move air efficiently. The motor had to work harder, the system ran longer, and comfort still suffered. It's one of those problems that sneaks up over time.
We pulled the old wheel and put in a clean replacement. The blades on the new one are sharp, evenly spaced, and completely clear - exactly how they need to be to push a proper volume of air through the system. The difference in airflow after a swap like this is usually immediate.
A clogged blower wheel won't show up on a basic thermostat check. It's the kind of thing that only gets caught when someone actually opens up the system and looks. That's why a real tune-up matters - not just checking temps and moving on, but digging into the components that actually drive performance.
If your system is running constantly but rooms still aren't hitting the right temp, or airflow from the vents feels weak, this is worth looking into. The fix isn't always complicated. Sometimes it's just a wheel that needs to go.
