


A frozen AC unit is one of those problems that sneaks up on you. The system is running, the thermostat is set, but the house just won't cool down. Then you notice ice forming on the lines. That's not a freon problem or a dirty filter - that's usually a refrigerant flow issue, and a bad TXV is one of the most common culprits.
The TXV, or thermostatic expansion valve, controls how much refrigerant enters the evaporator coil. When it fails, refrigerant flow gets restricted or goes completely out of whack. The coil gets too cold, moisture in the air freezes right onto it, and now you've got a block of ice where there should be airflow. The system works harder, cools less, and the problem compounds fast.
That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The valve had failed, and the system was iced up and struggling. We pulled the faulty TXV, replaced it with the correct new part, and got the refrigerant flowing properly again. The new valve you can see tagged and installed is a precise fit for this system - not a generic workaround.
Once the new valve was in and the system had time to recover, it was back to doing its job the right way. Steady pressures, proper refrigerant flow, and an evaporator coil that could actually breathe again. That's the difference between a real repair and just treating symptoms.
